How to Install and Register or Transfer GTX

We walk you through how to install the GTX Horse Racing Software and register it for use.

Run as Administrator

When we are advising new GTX users about installing GTX, we always say:  After GTX is installedand before you open it, you must do the following...and then we explain how to set the Run as Administrator option. Sometimes, that suggestion is overlooked.

To set the Run as Administrator option or to check if you've already set it:

Ensure the GTX program is closed.

Locate the GTX icon that you will click on to start GTX (usually the GTX icon on the Desktop), RIGHT-click it, and select 'Properties'.

In the GTX Properties box, there is a setting you must change: On the 'Shortcut' tab, click the 'Advanced' button.

In the Advanced Properties box that opens, select the 'Run as Administrator' option, then click 'OK'.

Then click  'Apply' and 'OK' to close the Properties box and then Restart GTX.

Transfer Data and Personal Settings to a new GTX

These guidelines are for existing GTX users who want to install GTX on a new computer and transfer all their historical and personal data and personal settings from their current GTX to the new GTX. Also covered is the situation in which an existing GTX user needs to install GTX on a new computer because of a crashed hard drive or some other non-rectifiable malfunction on the current computer.

The alternatives are:

You want to use GTX on one computer only

Situation 1: You want to transfer your installation of GTX and all your data and settings to a new computer that will replace the old one, meaning you will use GTX only on that new computer. A typical reason for doing this would be to replace an outdated or ailing but still accessible computer. This involves installing a new copy of GTX on the new computer and then transferring the data and settings into the new GTX. (Instructions for Situation 1 here)

Situation 2: However, in the event of a crashed hard drive or otherwise non-accessible computer, where you are not able to transfer data and settings because the GTX file structure on the old computer is not accessible, you will need to install GTX on the new computer and set it up manually with your preferences. (Instructions for Situation 2 here)

You want to use GTX on two computers

Situation 3: You want to transfer your installation of GTX and all your data and settings onto another computer, and you will use GTX on both computers. A typical reason for this situation would be to be able to use GTX on computers in two different places; for example, one at the office and one at home. This situation would require you to purchase a second computer license for $198. The result of this option is that you can download files to and use GTX on both computers.
